Context

Each GraphForge instance is linked to a specific environment, which corresponds to a complete business domain (for example “Car dealership France”). The current environment name is displayed in the breadcrumb at the top of the page:

Graphicient > [Organization] > [Environment] > GraphForge

An environment holds everything you build in GraphForge:

  • The ontology — the domain schema
  • The semantics — the glossary and the reference knowledge about the domain
  • The AI agent — the behavior of the environment’s assistant
  • The data — sources, transformations, mappings and loads

When it opens, GraphForge checks your access rights, then loads everything at once: you then switch from one mode to another without reloading.

To change context, go back to the home page and open another environment.

Create a new environment to build a new ontology

Each ontology lives in its own environment. To start a new one, create an environment from the home page.

  1. On the home page, open My environments and click + Environment (top right)
  2. Organization — choose the organization that will host the environment
  3. Identity — give the environment a name (letters, digits, spaces and underscores, 3 to 48 characters; the name is checked against the existing environments of the organization) and a description (required, 100 characters maximum, visible to the members of the environment)
  4. Server — choose the server that will host the environment (Graphicient is selected by default)
  5. Initial ontology — choose where to start from:
    • Blank ontology — everything is to be designed in GraphForge
    • Clone the ontology of an environment — copies the types, relationships and labels of another environment of your organization. No data is copied. Search for the source environment in the list
  6. Review — check the summary, then click Create the environment

The name, the organization and the server are final once the environment is created. The description and the access rights remain editable.

The creation takes a few moments: keep the window open until the confirmation screen appears. You are then offered three actions:

  • Open GraphForge — start designing the ontology of the new environment (see Ontology screen)
  • Add users — give other people access to the environment. By default, you are its only member, and you can add users later
  • Open the environment — open the new environment
